P21
Also known as: CNTF Peptide Mimetic · Cognitive Peptide 21
Synthetic peptide derived from ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF). Promotes neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and improves spatial learning in rodent models of Alzheimer's. Limited human data — most evidence remains pre-clinical.
At a glance
- Half-life
- 6 hours
- Common route
- Subcutaneous
- Typical dose range
- 200–1,000mcg
- Stability (reconstituted)
- 14days refrigerated
Best timing
Daily AM dosing. Effects on hippocampal neurogenesis are cumulative over 4–8 weeks in animal studies.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy
- Active cancer (neurogenesis-promoting peptides have theoretical proliferative concern)
- No human clinical trials — pre-clinical only
Watch symptoms
- Limited human characterization
- Injection site reactions
- Theoretical risk from CNTF pathway activation (associated with weight loss and cachexia at high doses in earlier CNTF trials)
