P21

Also known as: CNTF Peptide Mimetic · Cognitive Peptide 21

Synthetic peptide derived from ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF). Promotes neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and improves spatial learning in rodent models of Alzheimer's. Limited human data — most evidence remains pre-clinical.

At a glance

Half-life
6 hours
Common route
Subcutaneous
Typical dose range
2001,000mcg
Stability (reconstituted)
14days refrigerated

Best timing

Daily AM dosing. Effects on hippocampal neurogenesis are cumulative over 4–8 weeks in animal studies.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Active cancer (neurogenesis-promoting peptides have theoretical proliferative concern)
  • No human clinical trials — pre-clinical only

Watch symptoms

  • Limited human characterization
  • Injection site reactions
  • Theoretical risk from CNTF pathway activation (associated with weight loss and cachexia at high doses in earlier CNTF trials)
