HCG

Also known as: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin · Pregnyl · Novarel

Glycoprotein hormone normally produced by the placenta. Structurally similar to LH and binds the LH/CG receptor on Leydig cells to drive testosterone production. Used to maintain testicular function during exogenous androgen therapy and in male fertility protocols.

Best timing

Typically 2–3x weekly. Dosing in IU (typically 250–500 IU per dose for fertility/testicular preservation). 1 IU ≈ 1 mcg by convention for HCG dose calculations.

Contraindications

  • Prostate or other androgen-sensitive cancer
  • Precocious puberty
  • Pregnancy
  • Hypersensitivity to HCG or urinary-derived gonadotropins

Watch symptoms

  • Estradiol elevation — possible gynecomastia, water retention
  • Mood changes, irritability
  • Acne, oily skin
  • Headache
  • Testicular discomfort early in protocol
